Modern Slavery Statement
Last updated: April 2026

1. Our Commitment

This statement is made on behalf of Skid Energy (the Netherlands) pursuant to our ethical business principles. While we are not legally required to publish a statement under the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015, we voluntarily commit to ensuring that modern slavery, forced labour, and human trafficking do not exist in our business or supply chain.

Modern slavery is a crime and a fundamental violation of human rights. It can take many forms: slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking. We have zero tolerance for any such practices.

We operate with Dutch engineering values: integrity, transparency, and respect for human dignity. These values guide every decision, from our headquarters in the Netherlands to our project sites in South and Central America and beyond.

2. Our Business

Skid Energy designs and supplies containerized, skid‑mounted biomass processing systems for off‑grid communities, farms, and industries. We are a small engineering firm with deep experience in clean energy projects across three continents.

Our team works directly with local partners, farmers, and project developers – often in developing countries where labour rights protections may be weaker. This gives us both a responsibility and an opportunity to promote ethical practices.

Our core values:

  • Safety and reliability – for our people and our customers
  • Environmental stewardship – clean energy without exploitation
  • Integrity in profit – we do not compromise on human rights
  • Respect for local communities – we listen, learn, and act fairly

3. High‑Risk Areas

We recognise that working in developing countries and sourcing specialised equipment internationally carries inherent risks:

  • Local labour practices – on construction or installation sites managed by partners or subcontractors
  • Remote supply chains – components sourced from regions with known labour violations
  • Rapid deployment needs – occasional pressure to procure quickly, which can bypass normal checks

To mitigate these risks, we:

  • Map our supply chain – identify high‑risk tiers and regions
  • Require signed commitments – from all suppliers and contractors, confirming compliance with our Labour Standards and Anti‑Slavery Policy
  • Conduct spot checks – where feasible, we request labour documentation or independent audits

4. Our Policies

We have integrated anti‑slavery principles into several internal policies:

  • Purchasing Policy – all suppliers must agree to our Supplier Code of Conduct, which explicitly prohibits forced labour, child labour, and human trafficking.
  • Labour Standards & Human Rights Policy – applies to any direct hire or contractor working on our behalf, regardless of country.
  • Whistleblowing Policy – employees, partners, and even third parties can anonymously report suspected modern slavery without fear of retaliation.
  • Recruitment Policy – we verify identity and eligibility to work for any direct employee; we require the same from our partners.

5. Our Suppliers and Partners

We work with a growing network of preferred suppliers – manufacturers of engines, containers, piping, and control systems. All new suppliers must:

  • Sign our Supplier Code of Conduct (which includes modern slavery compliance)
  • Provide evidence of their own anti‑slavery policies or training
  • Agree to allow reasonable audits of their labour practices

For local partners in developing countries (e.g., plantation cooperatives, installation crews), we:

  • Discuss our expectations face‑to‑face
  • Provide a simple, translated version of our Labour Standards principles
  • Include termination clauses in contracts for any breach of anti‑slavery rules

If we discover modern slavery in our supply chain, we will take immediate action – up to and including termination of the relationship and, where appropriate, reporting to authorities.

6. Training and Awareness

We recognise that awareness is the first line of defence. We provide:

  • Induction training – all employees read and acknowledge our Modern Slavery Statement and Labour Standards Policy upon joining.
  • Project‑specific briefings – before any deployment in a developing country, our team reviews local labour risks and reporting procedures.
  • Partner guidance – we share simple educational materials with local contractors and community leaders.

We continuously review and improve our training, especially as we enter new regions or supply chains.

7. Statement Approval and Review

This statement has been approved by the management of Skid Energy and will be reviewed annually. The next review is due in April 2027.
